| Pakistan to Launch First Digital Transport System in Rawalpindi |
Pakistan is set to introduce its first fully digital transport system in Rawalpindi, marking a landmark initiative to modernise the city's public transport system. The project is being led by the Punjab Information Technology Board (PITB), which is developing the software required to support the system. Key features of the system include setting up a control room and introducing an e-tag system at Pirwadai Bus Terminal. The system will collect and monitor detailed information about vehicles, including registration details, ownership, fitness certificates and driver information. The control room will improve overall service quality and safety by ensuring that only vehicles that meet safety and service standards are allowed to operate. The initiative is inspired by similar systems in cities such as Paris and London and will be the first of its kind in Pakistan. If successful, it could serve as a model for digital transport systems in other cities in Punjab. Additionally, the system will allow citizens to lodge complaints about public transport services online, leading to greater accountability.
