Lahore High Court Orders Removal of Lt. Gen. Munir Afsar as Chairman NADRA



The Lahore High Court (LHC) has cancelled the appointment of Lt. Gen. Munir Afsar as the Director General of the National Database and Registration Authority (NADRA). The decision was delivered by Justice Asim Hafeez, who ruled that Afsar's appointment was illegal and lacked "legal force". The case was brought to the court by the plaintiffs, who argued that the caretaker government's decision to amend the NADRA Act to allow the appointment of active duty military personnel exceeded its mandate and was inappropriate for a caretaker government. The LHC ruling stressed that a caretaker government should not interfere in permanent political matters such as the appointment of the Chairman of NADRA. The court  ordered the immediate dismissal of Lt. Gen. Munir Afsar.
