Ben Stokes has hinted at the possibility of playing in the ICC Champions Trophy 2025 to be held in Pakistan. Despite retiring from ODI cricket in 2022, Stokes made a surprise return for the 2023 World Cup, but his performance for England was unconvincing. He has since been recovering from a hamstring injury and has not played an ODI since the World Cup. In a recent interview, Stokes said that while he is unsure of his exact role in the tournament, a big event like the Champions Trophy is hard to turn down. He has not ruled out the possibility of participating and said discussions could take place about his involvement in the run-up to the event. England chief selector Luke Wright also noted that both Stokes and Joe Root remain in the running for the Champions Trophy despite their limited recent ODI appearances. In preparation, England are planning a series of ODIs in India in February 2025, with Stokes and Root potentially playing 50-over cricket in the run-up to the Champions Trophy.
