Govt to Plant Over 5 Million Trees in Islamabad

The Pakistan government  has announced an ambitious plan to plant more than 5 million trees in Islamabad as part of  efforts to fight climate change and improve the city's environment. The initiative, which will be implemented as part of the Carbon Credit Program, aims to transform the federal capital into a more ecologically sustainable and climate-resilient city. The tree plantations will cover 2,000 to 10,000 kanals of land across the city, with a special focus on areas such as Margalla Hills National Park. The campaign is also part of a broader strategy that includes promoting renewable energy, switching to electric vehicles, and creating urban forests. These efforts are aimed at improving air quality, reducing health risks, and strengthening the city's resilience to climate impacts.  Additionally, the Islamabad Administration will use digital tools to monitor the saplings  to ensure their survival and growth, with  fruit-bearing and flowering trees being preferred over ornamental ones.
